US Foodservice Livermore Goes Solar

Leverage Buying Group vendor partner US Foodservice took their commitment to renewable energy sources to new heights in April 2011 when they activated a 1.18 Megawatt solar panel system with 4,354 photovoltaic panels.

The system, which spans the tops of the carports in the US Foodservice Livermore parking lot and a large section of the warehouse rooftop, is the largest solar panel project in Northern California.  Officials say that the solar panel system will provide 40% of the energy needs for US Foodservice San Francisco during daylight hours.

US Foodservice San Francisco is the only Green-certified broadline food distributor in the state of California and one of only a handful across the country.  In addition to activating the solar panel system US Foodservice San Francisco also began using a blend of Bio-Diesel in their fleet of trucks in February 2010 as another step in increasing the company's all-over commitment to sustainable energy sources.

"As a chef, I want to spend my time in the kitchen, not watching over fluctuation in cost of goods. Leverage gives me that freedom because they watch prices for me."
